History
My interest in Bull Terriers started very early, having been brought up with Bull Terriers and Boxers, which my parents bred but did not show. My Grandparents bred Bulldogs, so I can say I was weaned on dogs all around me. The first Bull Terrier I owned was bought shortly after I got married at nineteen. I bought her from a very famous Dachshund breeder Hazel Fielding (Delphik). Her husband at the time had an interest in Bull Terriers; they were great friends of Ron Scott Snr. So when I decided to mate my little bitch I was given the Scott's number, they had a young Brindle and White dog Doonhamers Barbarian, a son of CH ROMANY RIGHT REPLY.
This marriage was an experience; on the day only Eunice was available, as Ron was at work. It took all day to get the mating, starting in the lounge and ending with a successful mating in the bathroom in the bath. Eunice and I had just sat down to a cup of tea when Ron arrived home from work. Quite a frightening sight in his Prison Uniform (not an inmate) a Warden anyone who knew Ron would know what I mean when I say you either loved him or hated him, his flashing blue eyes could leave you cold. This introduction to Ron and Eunice led to a life long friendship. Ron taught me many things about Bull Terriers and Judging as he did with many of to-days judges in the ring to day.
The North was a hot bed of Top Kennels Doonhamers, Retsacnal, Brobar, Oldlane etc., Ron introduced me to Joyce Boyd (Retsacnal) from whom I Bought my second Bitch, Retsacnal Meadow Sweet, a big heavy weight girl who won many awards. As time went on I mated a young bitch to CH BANKTOP JULIUS from the mating I kept a small bitch WARBONNET ATERA around this time interbreeding with miniatures was allowed, I had bought a miniature some years before from Mrs. Sylvia Marston the famous Borzoi Breeder (Falconcraig). I had mated her to the Miniature CH OLDLANE RED DEMON, the whelping was a nightmare, no one had told me about the problems whelping miniatures all the puppies were lost. I had always followed the miniatures but this experience was just too much.
When the small bitch out of CH Banktop Julius, Warbonnet Atera arrived on the scene this gave me the opportunity to try again. It was at Blackpool Champ. Show, and as usual Ron and I were having a pint and a long debate on the judging, miniatures had tickets on the day and CH KIRBEON BANDMASTER had won C.C. and Best of Breed .He was the most beautiful Mini Bull I had ever seen, I had already asked Mr.Kirby if I could use him on my small standard bitch (she was in season at the time) I asked Ron what do you think about me mating my Julius daughter to Bandmaster Ron replied you must be ***** crazy.
The mating took place that day the result was my First Champion. CH WARBONNET CARMELITA, one of the best miniature bitches bred, She was one of the few who ever beat Bandmaster. Carmelita was the start of my love affair with miniatures her litter sister WARBONNET CONTESSA went to Barbara and Anthony Clark (Grandopera) she won two C.C. before going into the nursery she produced litter sister CH GRANDOPERA DELILAH and CH GRANDOPERA
DESDEMONA. Contessa was grandmother of CH GRANDOPERA FRANCESCA and CH GRANDOPERA FIGARO there by she was a great influence on the famous Grandopera Champion line. I can remember Raymond and Eva coming to see a litter of standards, at the time I had this interbred litter, Eva was very taken with the miniatures and tried very hard to buy Carmelita. Around about this time I was having
domestic problems and my dogs were curtailed. Shortly
After Carmelita was made Champion she went to Kathy Lees (Merrywhip) Kathy showed her on with lots of success, I had a break of three to four years, remarried. However I could not live without Bull Terriers, my husband bought a Harlequin Great Dane which I showed with success, Bull Terriers were calling me.
Brian Foy told me of a litter in Birmingham, I went along and bought litter mates, the bitch was WARBONNET COURVOISIER, I can remember going to my first show at Elland M.B.T.C. Anthony Clark made me very welcome however he commented there is nothing for her, meaning no prizes miniatures had moved on, she may not have been a winner but she sure was a winner in the nursery, mated to CH BEEWAU ENTERPRISE she gave me one litter only but in that produced
the long time and still male BREED RECORD HOLDER CH. WARBONNET HYPERION 25 C.C. Although the mating was repeated twice more she did not oblige. About this time I got a phone call from the breeder of Courvoisier offering me two bitches as they found themselves having to give them up, I took both bitches, finding one a pet home the other I kept Shulames Sunny Disposition(Cassey) she was half sister to Courvoisier,
Cassey mated to Hyperion produced Ch Warbonnet Petite Etoille, Am.Ch.Warbonnet Commanchee Run and Warbonnet Red Rum. Hyperion can be found on many of to-days pedigrees. Warbonnet Red Rum was possibly the most used Stud Dog for many years, producing no P.L.L. sufferers.
Hyperion mated to his daughter Petite Etoille produced the very beautiful CH WARBONNET Primera she was never mated as I felt her to small to breed from her litter brother Commanchee Run was bought by my dear friend Patti Holt in America he made American Champion and Mexican Champion and produced many Champions in America.
CH WARBONNET PISIDIUM was an outstanding bitch she was mated to Graymor Guarantor and they produced Warbonnet Hilarion a stunning true miniature Bull Terrier who in his short life collected many fans and had he lived would have made an impact on the breed, this was the only litter Pisidium had she was spayed and went to live in Bournemouth, her sister Warbonnet Nonoalco carried the line through mated to CH.ALDRINGHAMS AMEDEAUS OF WARBONNET they produced CH.WARBONNET PISTOLET BLEU and CH.WARBONNET MYSTIKO to SPARSIDE Mystiko
offspring’s making a great impact in Germany. At Crufts 98 I showed
CH WARBONNET PISTOLET BLEU who gained R.C.C. from Open Bitch at the grand old age of seven. In
the Standard ring I produced top quality Standards taking B.O.B.at Crufts 98 with WARBONNET PARIS. Taking top awards i.e. REGENT TROPY with CH KILACABAR KASABLANCA OF WARBONNET. Runner up in Regent Trophy with her Sire CH WARBONNET BUCKSKIN. Regent Trophy B.O.S. with his litter sister CH WARBONNET ACE OF ACES.
In 1999 I gave a separate interest in my Affix to my Niece Vanessa and her daughter Melissa who now breed and show under “Warbonnet”,
both Miniatures and Standards. However, our kennels are completely divorced from
one another and we have no connection other than the same kennel name.
Through the years I have side stepped into other breeds, I imported the first Swedish Lapphunds into England three in total showed and bred them successfully winning many Import Classes an d also Best Import I have also bred and showed Cesky terriers. In my early years shown and bred miniature & standard dachshunds. My hobby has been good to me taking me all over the world judging, I judged the M.B.T.C. of America their first club show after Miniatures took off in America, followed by Sweden, Germany, Australia. Most recent and one I enjoyed very much was the First F.C.I Champ Show in the Crimea where I also had the honour to give tickets out in America Amstaffs,
not to mention the Mini Club show in Denmark. My dogs have given me the opportunity to meet many friends both at home and abroad.
In recent years I have campaigned Ch Jenkir Jasper To Warbonnet, Multi Ch Seaquest Miss Dynamite, Warbonnet Jon Bon
(2CCs) and Warbonnet
Reet Petite (1CC).
It's not roses all the way as breeding Bullies both Standard and Miniatures are full of highs and lows, heartache and joys, never the less once you have had or known a Bullie you would never be without one, I look forward to my next litter when it all start again.
